Hello, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Ann Ogden and I will be your new NACE President 2018. I work at Wente Vineyards in Livermore as the Events Director. I have been on the NACE board the last two years serving as Secretary. I joined NACE because of the wonderful educational programs they offer along with meeting experts in the industry. I’m looking forward to an exciting New Year with NACE.
Norman Anub with ULTIMATE SOUNDS
How did you get into the industry?
Well, it started way back as a child when my mother took me to a movie theater for the first time to see "The Sound Of Music". (Okay, now I'm giving away my age LOL). I've always enjoyed a variety of music. That enjoyment turned into an addiction of collecting music and spending countless hours in record stores when I was a teenager. My best friend's brother was a DJ. I spent many hours learning and practicing the craft at their house and quickly found a love for the art of mixing. That love turned into DJing at family parties and friends' events. Then, a friend decided to give me a shot at DJing at his wedding (most likely because he knew I wouldn't charge him anything LOL). It was fun and excitng although I wasn't sure what I was doing. Decades later, I'm still doing what I love to do! More now than ever.
Whatd o you do in the industry?
I own Ultimate Sounds, a single-op DJ/Entertainment company based in San Jose specializing in Weddings and corporate events. On occassion, I also perform at fund raisers, school/church functions, and private events. The organizations I am a member of are: Bay Area chapter American Disc Jockey Association, ACPWC, SV Rainbow Chamber, SV Concierge Association, and SV NACE.
What’s new with you?
Since my recent "health scare" last month, I'm committing to living a healthier lifestyle. Eating healthier food, meeting fitness goals, and enjoying my new guilty pleasure- Braggs organic apple cider vinegar. Mmmmm
What has been your biggest accomplishment in your career?
Great question. Not sure I've accomplished it yet. Not missing a single wedding in 29 years as a DJ comes to mind.
What has been you biggest challenge?
One of the biggest challenges is expressing my value and worth to a potential client that focuses on the dollar figure amount over the overall value and experience. Whether the sale is made or not, the process of educating starts all over again with the next potential client.
Why do you attend NACE meetings?
It doesn't matter how long you've been in the industry, there is still so much to learn. It's a never-ending process. Trends change, lifestyles change. We have to adapt to changes in our industry. I feel NACE members are the Best of the Best. I want to surround myself with and learn from passionate, creative, caring industry Professionals.
How long have you been a NACE member?
I have been a NACE member for 3 years now. This is my second year on the board.
How long have you been in the event industry?
I DJ’d my first wedding back in 2010. I was suuuper nervous but I think I did pretty good.
What made you want to be part of the event industry?
I really enjoyed the idea of working behind the scenes at events after going to concerts for years. Once I learned how to DJ I loved being the life of the party.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I am probably most proud of how much I have learned and grown in the industry the last 8 years. Coming in, I was shy, soft spoken, and not very social. Over the past years, I have learned to open up and just have fun while I work.
Favorite all time movie is the Big Lebowski.
Favorite activity or hobby?
Besides DJing, I love to go out and take photos. It gets me out of the house and I like the challenge of creating something beautiful.
Twizzlers or Red Vines?
There is room in my heart for both.
What is your dream vacation destination?
I love to travel. I think my all-time favorite place I’ve been is Japan, but I’ve always wanted to see the Northern Lights in Alaska.
